Using 'Theater of caterpillars, worms, maggots and the flying animals that come forth from them' by Amsterdam physician Steven Blankaart (1650-1704) as a starting point, I will examine how practices of collecting insects and writing (natural) history were interconnected in the Dutch Republic, at a critical point in the development of natural history.
